Carolyn Fulk has been with University Internal Audit at Virginia Tech since 2015. Fulk attended Radford University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting, then later went on to James Madison University to receive her MBA. At Virginia Tech, Carolyn specializes in advisory and investigative audits.
Carolyn has been in the internal audit field for 27 years, and has held a variety of different roles throughout her time. She began her professional career at the University of Virginia as a Staff Auditor, and eventually became the Director of University Audits at UVA in 1998. Her other prior internal audit positions were held at the Virginia Department of General Services, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, and the Virginia Department of Education. While in these various positions, she made numerous recommendations that assisted Internal Audit in identifying millions of dollars of potential cost savings and recoveries. She has also participated as a team member for Quality Assessment Reviews at peer institutions.
Throughout the years in the field, Carolyn was able to acquire multiple certifications to advance her career. Her certifications include: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), and Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA). Carolyn is a member of The Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) Southwest Virginia Chapter and has been a volunteer instructor for the IIA since 2003.
